Look: Print Quality
Lines should be sharp and well defined with no blurred edges. Colours should be clear and distinct.
Look: Transmission
As the note is a polymer note there is no watermark, however due to the substrate used when the note is held up to the light you should be able to see visible images from the opposite side.
Look: Mask
If you look at the circular area to the left hand side of the domed roof you will see a thistle pattern but when held up to the light the number 5 appears.
Look: Security Thread
The security thread is visible as a broken silver line running from the top to the bottom of the note between the ‘2’ and ‘0’ of the number ‘20’. It is visible on both the front and back of the note.
Look: See Through
There is a large clear polymer window on the left of the note that runs vertically when viewed from the front, within the window you will see the hologram. Running along the top edge of the clear window you will also see ‘DB 20 DB 20 DB 20’ .
Look: Microprint
Microprinting features in various locations throughout the note and some examples which you can see using a good magnifying glass are given here. The words ‘DANSKEBANK’ is written repeatedly in concentric circular patterns within the 4 corners of the note ‘DANSKEBANK’ is also written repeatedly along the bottom edge of the portraitThe letters ‘DB’ and the number ‘20’ can be found in the cog wheel designs in the centre background area of the note
Look: Serial Numbers
Each note has a unique serial number which is printed twice on the front of the note, horizontal in the upper centre and vertical on the bottom right. Serial numbers for the £20 note are black in colour and consist of two letters followed by seven numbers. The vertical serial number will fluoresce under UV.
Look: Denomination Numerals
The number ‘20’ appears in the top left and centre of the note. And accompanied by a £ sign in the top right. Two ‘20’s can also be found within the hologram.
Feel: Polymer Quality
The note should feel smoother than a paper note, though this will reduce over time. Like paper notes, polymer notes have raised print giving them a tactile quality.
Feel: Raised Print
You will feel raised print if you run your finger along:
- The Danske Bank name
- All writing including signatures
- The portrait of H. Ferguson
- The denomination numerals
Feel: Tactile Feature
Three arrangements of four dots in square formation can be found in the bottom left corner of the note, this will enable physical identification for the visually impaired.
Tilt: Iridescence
If you move the note around you will see 6 pairs of lines of shiny gold coloured hexagons of varying length that will shimmer. The lines run from both the top and bottom edges of the note with only 1-line meeting.
Tilt: Hologram
On the front of the note within the large clear window you will see a Holographic foil. Within the foil you will see part of the dome, hexagonal and circular shapes and the number 20 written twice. If you tilt the note back and forward the images will move and their colours change. The holographic foil is visible from the front and back of the note.
Tilt: Lift Classic
If you tilt the front of the note away from you at an oblique angle and look along its breadth, the number '20' can be seen within the white circular mosaic pattern on the centre left of the note. The pattern and solid blue background square continue on the right-hand edge of the note.
Check: UV Fluorescence
If you place the note under a good quality ULTRA-VIOLET light, you will see a solid rectangular block towards the bottom centre of the note that will fluoresce. Within the block you will see the number '20'. The large '20' to the left of the portrait, the edges of the circles along with areas of the background and the vertical serial number will also fluoresce.
Check: Gemini UV Printing
If you place the note under a good quality ULTRA-VIOLET light, you will see there are areas of the note that appear as a single colour in daylight but fluoresce as two separate colours under ultra-violet light. An example of this are 2 of the thistles on the front of the note above the image of the Mound.
Check: Compare
Always compare both sides of a suspect note with another note that you know to be genuine, looking for differences between the two. Make sure you check the size of a suspect note against a known genuine note.
