Look: Print Quality
Lines should be sharp and well defined with no blurred edges. Colours should be clear and distinct.
Look: Watermark
Hold the note up to the light. You should see a WATERMARK spelling out 'ULSTER BANK LIMITED' running horizontally through the middle of the note. The watermark is visible from both the front and back of the note.
Look: See Through
The 2 white rectangular shapes to the left and right of the centre of the note have a white background when the note is laid flat on a table. But when viewed against the light the surrounding fills in neatly with colour from the reverse of the note.
Look: Microprint
When examined closely with a good quality magnifying glass the bottom edge of the patterned strip that runs along the top of the note reads: 'ULSTER BANK LIMITED'.
Look: Serial Numbers
Each note has a unique serial number which is printed twice on the front of the note, horizontal in both the upper left and right. Serial numbers for the £100 note consist of one letter followed by seven numbers which are all the same size.
Look: Denomination Numerals
The number '100' appears in the top right and left corners and below the serial numbers on both the left and right of the note.
Feel: Paper Quality
The paper should feel crisp - not limp, waxy or shiny.
Feel: Raised Print
You will feel raised print if you run your finger over:
- Ulster Bank name.
- All writing including signatures.
Tilt: Lift Classic
If you tilt the front of the note away from you at an oblique angle and look along its breadth, the number '100' can be seen within the patterned area in the bottom right corner of the note below the Giants Causeway ancient rock formation.
Check: Compare
Always compare both sides of a suspect note with another note that you know to be genuine, looking for differences between the two. Make sure you check the size of a suspect note against a known genuine note.
Check: UV Fluorescence
If you place the note under a good quality ULTRA-VIOLET light, you will see highlighted on the front of the note a four-line horizontal and a four-line vertical barcode fluoresce.
